Back to our routine!

Our Classroom Picnic was a big success! Thanks to all involved!

Also on Monday, in Social Studies, we learned about Abraham Lincoln. We looked at pennies and talked about what it would be like to grow up in a log cabin. Afterward we played with Lincoln Logs!

In Math we also talked about pennies! We learned that the value of a penny is 1cent and the value of a dime is 10cents. To reinforce this lesson we opened a "store" in our classroom!

On Tuesday we talked about George Washington Carver (not to be confused with our 1st president!) and some of the things he invented using peanuts. We made our own peanut butter and found out how long it would take to harvest your own peanuts!

More Snow Days!

We had another wacky week of cancellations and delays! I think we will all be ready for a week with our normal routine!
In Social Studies we learned about our nations capital, Washington, D.C. We talked about the white house and several other buildings and monuments and then we used marshmallows to create our own buildings! (Thanks for the great photography Sadie!)

In Science we continued our discussion about animal habitats. We focused on the Arctic and the animals that live there. We played with real snow and decided that God did not make us to live in the snow...BRRR!

Cancellation, Delays and Kindergarten...Oh My!

This first week back from Christmas break caught us a little off kilter! First with the cancellation on Monday and then we had the delay on Tuesday...what a week! We did manage to find time to learn a few things...

In Math we practiced addition using M&M's.
Chocolate & education, two of my favorite things! Throw in a coffee and I'm good for the year;)
In our Reading Stations the students practiced reading and writing word families in salt.

We also wrote sentences using our new sight word, "what".
My favorite Reading Station is "Read With Me". That's when I get to read one on one with each student:)

Show and Tell is always a highlight, and we had a lot of Christmas gifts represented this week!
Lastly, we got our prizes for completing the November "Got Health?" program which was created by Mak Leyse and Rachel Brooks. McDonald's Fruit and Yogurt Parfaits! Yum!
