Springtime fun!

On Monday, we "traveled" to France for Social Studies! We learned a few French words and all about the Eiffel Tower...

Then we made our own Eiffel Towers...

The Kinders had fun using Smarties to learn the 8 addition family...

Also during Social Studies this week, we learned about Switzerland...

They made alpine hats and we tried out some yodeling...it might have sounded better if we really were in the Alps😂

Update on our caterpillars: Monday they formed their "J" shape...

By Wednesday, they had formed their chrysalis and we could put them into the net cage...

Firsties learned about the parts of a flower and planted their own seeds...

During our  combined Science class, we learned about elephants! God's design is so amazing!

Then we made elephant puppets! We love Gerald and Piggie!

Traveling Worms?

In Math this week, the Kinders learned the length of 1 inch and how to measure with a ruler. I challenged them to find something in our classroom that is 12 inches long...

and something that is one inch...

They were very creative in the items they measured! 

Kinders also had some "self-read" time...

After learning about the Bahamas during Social Studies, the students tried "snorkeling" and "deep-sea fishing"!

They also made pufferfish...

Lastly, for the Bahamas, we learned you should never sit under a palm tree...coconuts!

The Kinders are hard at work practicing their "special sounds"...

During Social Studies we've been "traveling" all over the world...so we needed passports!

Firsties have finished their Health unit and will be studying 1st Grade Science for the rest of the year.

This week we studied the life cycle of the butterfly, examined a real butterfly and acquired our own caterpillars!

Our combined Science class learned all about worms this week! Life cycle and body parts:)

We let real, live worms, paint!

Then we painted with gummy worms! It turned into a great color mixing lesson:)
