Finding our groove!

We've been reading quite a few books about Pete the Cat in our classroom. He uses a lot of fun words and phrases...such as "Groovy" and "It's all good". We are definitely finding our "groove" and I love, love, love my class!
Reading time! I love their enthusiasm for books!

In Social Studies this week we learned about maps and talked about directions...North, South, East and West:)

We even made our "map" on the floor!

Our memory verse right now is Matthew 5:16...We have a lot of shining lights in our classroom!
In Kindergarten Phonics we've really been working on the sounds letters make. Our focus right now is vowels...Leo noticed the U looks like a smile!
We've also worked a lot with our names...

Both grades made thank you cards for the ministers in our church...the Firsties even helped me address the envelopes and put the cards in the mailbox!

For First Grade Health we talked about healthy eating and made ourselves a healthy trail mix snack! (Well, mostly healthy;)

Lastly, during our Phonics time the Kinders used our new
play-dough to make some vowels! Ii and Uu. Although that quickly turned into wild imaginations! Snakes, snakes and snakes!

1st week of Kindergarten

I can't believe our first week is already over! What a week it was...routines to learn, schedules to follow, and friends to make!
Kindergarten worked on writing their names the proper way...
They learned when using glue it's, "just a dot, not a lot"! We also practiced cutting...
We matched up capital and lowercase "buddies"....
In Kindergarten Math we reviewed sorting, counting and patterns...
Together we read the book, "I'm Not Just a Scribble", and had fun creating our our scribble people...

First Grade Health had us talking about healthy foods, so we made our own versions of the healthy food plate:)

The Kinders (I told them that is my nickname for them:) had a scavenger hunt to become familiar with our classroom.

I explained that when the couch is full it is okay to sit on the rug...I guess they like to be cozy!

 Watercolors!
Lastly, for Science this week I challenged my Kinders and Firsties to use their imaginations and create things from pipe cleaners and foil...love the creativity!
